Artist Talk: Thursday, August 14
In partnership with Red Bird Press we will be hosting a public artist talk with Adrian Rhodes from 6-8PM at the Red Bird press Studio located at 708 Telephone Rd Suite C, near the University of Houston. We invite you to learn more about Adrian's printing, painting, and sculpture practice.
Adrian explores through her practice how the repetition of deeply iconographic imagery and motifs reflect recurring, intrusive thought patterns. Repetition of compositional elements in new configurations reflect the inability of individuals to let go and move on. She is interested in how the endlessly repeating nature of the work reflects patterns of thought and rumination. In a world of instant gratification, the act of sitting with heavy thoughts and repetitive processes for an extended time becomes a statement in itself, bringing that act to the content and context of the work.
Open Studio: Sunday, July 27
Join is for an exciting open studio on Sunday, July 27 from 1-3PM with collaborative artists Molly Burke and Nathan Gorgen at Ramona Residency located at 2213 Decatur Street. Their practice utilizes excess material from their respective processes and home life to create new artworks. A variety of coatings, such as plaster, wax, epoxy, and faux painting, also left over from other projects, are then applied to the artworks to either heighten or obscure their innate qualities. This allows the artists to play with perceptions of a material’s purpose, quality and value, as waste remnants and the byproducts of their life are transformed through the process.
Artist Talk: Saturday, July 12
